Connection Library – DIY - How to Build Standard Steel Connection Worksets in IDEA StatiCa
DIY - How to Build Standard Steel Connection Worksets in IDEA StatiCa
IDEA StatiCa Connection is a tool for simple, intermediate and complex connection design. The simple connections will be present in most of structural design projects. Many engineers that we have talked have their company typical connections already tabulated, detailed and designed. So, what is the purpose of using IDEA StatiCa for the standard connections?
These connection details are often stored in silos (Excel tables, CAD detail drawings, Document reports, etc.) which makes project delivery inefficient. Why? Because then the engineer in charge needs to pull together information from multiple sources to produce one complete calculation package. It opens the opportunity for time lost, information lost, or unnecessary mistakes.
IDEA StatiCa has the ability to save steel connection models in a library that later can be opened from the Connection Wizard.
With the following process you will be able to get all your standard connections handy for any project:
- Open the connections from the wizard in one file and modify sections and loads if needed
- Add more connections from your library in the project file
- Calculate them all and extract a single calculation report with all the connections
- Create a single IFC file containing all the connections and share it in your calc package
The process to create your custom library and open files from wizard is explained next:
Are you an experienced user and you already have multiple connections that you want import to the connection library? We have a tool to automatically import them. Read more here.
