The telecom mast tower project

A new telecom mast tower was built in Jutland Denmark. Baseplate connections anchored to concrete pedestals with reinforcements were designed as supports for the legs of the steel structure. The engineers from
KI Rådgivende ingeniører were commissioned to perform a structural verification of this design. For this verification, the engineers made use of IDEA StatiCa Connection in combination with 3D Detail for an advanced full 3D analysis. Using this advanced analysis, the engineers were able to verify that the anchoring system could resist the large tension forces caused by the governing wind load.

Complete workflow for anchoring in 3D

For some time now, it has been possible to model and assess the anchoring of steel beams/columns to a concrete block in IDEA StatiCa Connection. However, due to the lack of information on some types of anchors and the fact that reinforcement in the concrete block cannot be taken into account, some failure modes could not be fully assessed. To eliminate these deficiencies, it is now possible to export the model from Connection to Detail. This involves transferring the geometry and parameters of the concrete block, baseplate and anchors including the applied load. In Detail, it is then possible to model the reinforcement into the concrete block and perform a non-linear finite element calculation (3D CSFM). In this webinar we will show step by step how the workflow was applied for the verification of the anchoring design of the telecom mast tower project.
