As a civil and structural engineer, I am responsible for the structural analysis and the associated verifications. My focus was on the preliminary design, the main calculations, and the close coordination with our in-house fabrication. Structural verification of such structures requires careful modelling and a high degree of transparency. The large internal forces resulting from seismic actions led, among other things, to heavy base plates and complex welded connections. Using IDEA StatiCa Connection, we were able to assess stress distributions and plastic strains in the joints in a realistic manner. Through Checkbot, the internal forces were imported directly from RSTAB, thereby avoiding transfer errors and enabling targeted optimisation of critical connection regions.
