This paper refers to the Component-based finite element model (CBFEM). The procedure for the composition of a model based on the usual production process is used in CBFEM. The method is demonstrated on two types of connections. CBFEM results are compared to results obtained by the component method.
$$This paper was prepared for the 12th International Conference for Steel, Space and Composite Structures, Prague, Czech Republic, 2014. It refers to the component-based finite element model (CBFEM). Design focussed component model (CM) is compared to the design finite element (DFEM) and research finite element models (RSFEM). The procedure for the composition of a model based on the usual production process is used in CBFEM. The method is demonstrated on two types of connections. CBFEM results are compared to results obtained by the component method for portal frame eaves moment connection. Design of moment resistant column base is demonstrated for a case loaded by two-directional bending moments and normal force.
