This sample project from the Connection Wednesdays – Moment connection with haunches webinar showcases two modeling approaches (mini‑haunch, full-haunched beam).Â
This sample project demonstrates a typical steel frame corner detail with asymmetric haunches, commonly used in industrial halls with cantilevered canopies. The main frame member is equipped with a larger haunch created using a widener operation with trimming, while the secondary beam features a smaller haunch modeled as a full, untrimmed geometry.Â
In some cases (mini-haunch), the full length of the haunch should be included to capture force transfer and stability effects properly. In other situations (haunched beam), modeling only a representative segment is sufficient and more practical.Â
