Altiplano – PB10, Paris

France | Bysteel
The project consists of the total restructuring of the PB10 building located in La Défense (Paris) and built in 1980 with a reinforced concrete structure.

This operation includes eight new floors in a metallic structure (~1,500 tons) supported on the existing concrete. The connection area is the transition between an existing concrete column and a new articulated steel column (as specified). The biggest challenge was to design a connection in an area where there are two cantilevers (one with 2.5 m) with a façade load influence and fit it in a reduced space (the available height between concrete and steel was 295 mm). To be able to guarantee the articulated behavior, in accordance with the national annex from EN1993-1-8, the base plate of the column connection should have a maximum width of 300 mm. Additionally, due to the structural scheme, the area of the node (where the different structural elements meet) had to be strengthened with larger cross-section stubs, ensuring the continuity of the node.
