ARUP has used IDEA StatiCa Connection for code-checking steel connections for two new commercial buildings in London built – 10 Fenchurch Avenue and 6-8 Bishopsgate skyscraper.

ARUP is a multinational professional services firm headquartered in London which provides engineering, design, planning, project management and consulting services for all aspects of the built environment. With almost 14,000 employees it belongs to the biggest engineering companies in the UK.

6-8 Bishopsgate is a 50-story skyscraper growing currently in the very heart of London. 10 Fenchurch Avenue (known as One Fen Court) has been just recently opened just a few streets nearby the Bishopsgate skyscraper. In these two London’s iconical projects, ARUP was responsible for the detailed design of steel-to-steel connections, such as column base plates & cast-in plates. Both buildings are shaping the new modern face of the City of London.

IDEA StatiCa has proven to be an invaluable and easy-to-use tool in these projects for checking that proposed connection details are feasible. It reduces the risk of encountering unexpected difficulties when the fabricator carries out detailed design.

Watch the presentation of ARUP’s Senior Structural Engineer, Gordon Clanachan, explaining the challenges ARUP was facing when dealing with these projects and how IDEA StatiCa eased the structural analysis of both buildings.
