In this webinar, we are very proud to present an extraordinary project that won an award at the Structural Steel Design Awards 2020.

Kiernan Steel, one of Ireland’s leading structural steel firms, adopted IDEA StatiCa in 2016, only a few months after the software was introduced in the market – having noticed straight away its potential to speed up the connection design process. Since then it became their main connection design software for almost all of their connection designs.

About the project

The new Curragh Racecourse project comprises a huge 7200m2 cantilevered roof with spans ranging from 27m up to 45m in the double cantilevered areas meaning that this grandstand is the largest cantilevered roof of its kind in Ireland.

Kiernan Steel was not only tasked with erecting this roof but also with other services such as connection design, steel detailing, clash detection, fabrication and intumescent painting to name a few. They were able to achieve these tasks all within a tightly congested 6-month window, and used IDEA StatiCa solely for all the connection for the complicated structure shown below:

Webinar content

The webinar will be focusing on the 2 main nodes which support roughly a third of the entire roof area, and the longest cantilevered part, and have been designed to receive forces that exceed 10MN.

We will explain how IDEA StatiCa can play a major role in the design process, from preliminary design to the fabrication process and the final constructible model, and how the new Production Cost estimation feature of IDEA StatiCa can help the engineer/fabricator to design cost-effective connections.

On Wednesday, November 11, 2020, we will run two of the same sessions: the first at 11:00 CET (Prague time, UTC+1), followed by the second one at 12:00 PM EST (New York time, UTC-5). Register below and join the session that fits into your day.
