How to define connections made with pins

Connection pins are not yet supported model type in IDEA StatiCa. Also, the code-checks covering pins are not implemented.

As a workaround, a custom bolt model type can be used in the connection model. A bolt can be edited in terms of material and geometry to fake the pin. IDEA StatiCa then analyzes the joint model using the CBFEM calculation and code-checks all parts of connections, except the faked pins. Pins can be then code-checked correctly aside using the forces calculated in the analysis of the joint model with the fake pins.

Some national codes, such as Eurocode, allow to design and code-check a pin connection as a bolt connection instead under given circumstances.
